French Chassepot bayonet 1866 pattern – 150$ CAD

This model of bayonet was known as the “sabre-bayonet” but is now mostly associates to the Chassepot rifle which it mainly equipped, or the “yataghan bayonet” thanks to its forward curve.

The peculiar shape of this bayonet was meant to make it both a good thruster and cutter, as well as replace the infantryman gladius so that it could act both as a bayonet and a sword.

This example is in very good shape. Some heavy patina on the steel scabbard, guard and spring mechanism, but the blade is in excellent shape. No makers mark aside from a “P” control stamp and unit markings on the guard.
