Shinto wakizashi

This wakizashi dates from the Shinto era (late 16th century to mid 18th), and could perhaps be older as it was cut down from a longer blade.

This wakizashi is in need of some love. The scabbard is split and missing its fittings, the ito was varnished by a previous owner and is now brittle, the blade has a few nicks and oxidation.

All the fittings are present on the sword itself, with very good quality tsuba, menuki and fuchi kashira which show a nice nanako pattern. The habaki is made of silver, and decorated with a rain pattern. The suguha hamon can still be seen, though it is fairly thin.

This is a sword which would deserve some restoration to be brought back to its former glory.
