SOLD – French early Chasseurs de Vincennes Sabre

This is the model carried by the Chasseurs de Vincennes, also known as Chasseurs d’Orléans, or Chasseurs a pied. A light infantry corps created during the Algerian Invasion.

This sword is one of the first examples made, as the model was created in 1838, and based on the Coulaux poincons of the blade, it would date between 1838 and 1840. The tip shape is made in the usual style of these early pipe backs.

The blade is in near pristine shape, and was sharpened. The hilt is also in great shape, though it was visibly reassembled at some point with a new leather washer. The whole assembly is rock solid, with no movement at all.

The scabbard is in excellent shape, with some paint from a former owner remaining here and there. It is unlikely to be original to this sabre, but fits the blade.

Chasseurs de Vincennes sabres are scarce and in high demand, and early examples like this one even more so. Don’t miss the chance!
