French 1882 Infantry Officer Sabre – Nancy style

This is is great example of a non regulation or “fantaisie” type of the 1882 infantry officer Sabre. The type of hilt is known as “à la Nancy”, after the name of the town where was situated the school for the French Rangers, who were the first to officially carry this style of sword as part of the regulation uniform in the 1870s.

The blade was made by Coulaux in Klingenthal in the 1890s, and is of an 1853 NCO sword type. It was slightly service sharpened. It also comes with its original field sword knot. The hilt, blade and scabbard are all nickel plated.

This is a very sturdy sword, in wonderful shape. The few blemishes should easily disappear with a little bit of cleaning. The construction is sound and shows no movement or rattling at all.

A great example of this model in one of its more practical designs.
