1845 British Infantry Officer Sabre – By Mole

This sabre was retailed by Firmin and made by Robert Mole, as seen by the typical proof disc associated with this reputable maker. Based on the overall style and the retailer’s mark, it was probably made sometime between the 1850s to 60s.

This is a fairly typical example of an 1845, except for the fact that the blade is slightly larger than is usually the case with most 1845. The hit is quite solid and tight, even though the grip shows sign of a slight swelling. Not an uncommon occurrence on antique swords.

The blade shows an even patina al throughout. With a little bit of effort, it could be brought back to almost pristine shape.

This is a superb example of a popular sabre, with a very desirable wider blade.
