Portuguese cup hilt rapier

This pattern of cup hilt rapier is found in Portugual with various blades and grip finishes. They date from the late 17th to early 18th century and have a quillon that is soldered to the cup, instead of being held by screws.

The blade is marked “Elemente Bonique” “en Alamania”, referring to a smith in Solingen, though this was undoubtedly added by the sword cutler who assembled and sold this sword initially. The grip wire is missing, and some pitting is visible on the blade, but the sword is otherwise in very good condition.

This is a very rare opportunity to acquire a genuine rapier. Don’t miss your chance!
