This is a splendid example of an1850 foot officer pattern from the United States Army. This sabre was made at Klingenthal in France and bears inspector marks dating the sword to the Civil War.
The blade has a nice patina with crisp etchings. The whole sword is solid with no rattle or bend.
The grip is made of hardwood covered in shark skin. Some isolated parts of the skin are missing. The wiring is still present.
This sword comes without a scabbard.
