This is great example of a typical Chatellerault made 1845 infantry adjudant sabre. These sabres were carried until 1916 by adjudants (NCOs) even sometimes in the trenches. This example is a fairly standard one, made in 1896 at Chatellerault, the main state manufacture in France which produced the best quality blades. The hilt and scabbard show matching serial numbers. The sword is solid with absolutely no rattling.
