This is a very typical example of the swords produced for officers during the First World War era. Due to the rush of new recruits and the ressource needs, it is possible that Sheffield knife maers were commissioned to produce swords as well.
The result are these very large robust swords, sometimes made with different materials. Hilt components are made of German silver instead of steel. The guard is huge compared to regular examples of this pattern. Ideal for a tall officer. The sword is in excellent overall shape, but unfortunately the scabbard was split at some point. It would be possible to repair it using shims and glue.
The sword also comes with its original sword knot. A great piece of First World War history.
