SOLD – 1780 French infantry officer sword

This pattern is usually know as the uniform officer sword. It replaced the 1767 smallsword and came equipped with different blades, often a demi-espadon or spadroon blade such as this one. The pattern was used until 1788, but would have been carried still by many officers, even in the first years of the Empire.

The sword is in very good condition, with minimal and even patina. No markings left except for a few lines near the shoulder. The whole assembly is very solid. This is a fairly substantial example with a long cut and thrust blade.

A great example of this little known pattern.
