This is a great quality example of this sabre that was in use in France from 1821 to 1870. This specific example has a high quality hilt, with a light blade that still bears traces of etchings that are now mostly unreadable. The blade was service sharpened. The scabbard is in great shape, with most of the gilt still present.
The presence of two rings on the scabbard shows that it was still in use when the order was sent to change them from a single frog button suspension to a two ring scabbard in early 1845. Certain officers chose to keep their old sabres and simply had new scabbards made.
